Downtown Waynesville Selected for Heritage Ohio Downtown Assessment Program

WAYNESVILLE, OHIO — Downtown Waynesville has been selected to participate in Heritage Ohio’s Downtown Assessment Resource Team program, an important first step toward potential designation in the Ohio Main Street Program.

Heritage Ohio, through the Ohio Main Street Program, is a Main Street America Coordinating Program. The Main Street America network includes more than 1,200 community-based organizations and over 40 coordinating programs working together to strengthen historic downtowns and commercial districts across the country.

The Ohio Main Street Program, administered by Heritage Ohio, works with communities across the state to revitalize historic and traditional commercial areas. Based on the nationally recognized Main Street approach developed by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, the program focuses on preserving historic character while supporting economic development, local business growth, public engagement, and community vitality.

The Downtown Assessment Resource Team, known as DART, is a two-day workshop during which Heritage Ohio staff visit the community, conduct site assessments, meet with stakeholders, lead community conversations, and gather public input to help identify strengths, challenges, and opportunities for Downtown Waynesville.

As part of this process, the public is invited to attend a community conversation focused on the benefits of revitalization and community visioning to share ideas and help shape the future of downtown. The session will include an overview of the DART program, facilitated discussion, and opportunities for public input in an open and welcoming setting.
