Biography

museum at the friends home

Housed within a former Quaker Boarding House built in 1905, the Friends Home Museum preserves and shares the rich history of Waynesville and the surrounding communities of Warren County. With historical exhibits displayed throughout 22 rooms, the museum offers visitors a unique opportunity to step back in time and explore the people, places, and stories that shaped the region.

Operated entirely by dedicated volunteers, the museum serves as a steward of local history through the preservation, documentation, and display of photographs, journals, business records, furnishings, clothing, artifacts, and family heirlooms that tell the story of generations past. Through educational programs and community engagement, the museum helps connect residents and visitors with the area’s cultural heritage.

In addition to its exhibits, the Friends Home Museum hosts a variety of popular events throughout the year, including Underground Railroad Tours, Ghost Tours and Dinners, and one of the area’s largest community garage sales. The museum is open to the public from April through mid December, welcoming visitors to discover the history, traditions, and stories that continue to make Waynesville a special place.
