Downtown Waynesville Welcomes Little Free Library

A new chapter is about to begin in Waynesville as the community welcomes its first Little Free Library.

The ribbon will be cut this Saturday, February 28 at 11:30 am at Waynesville Clock Shop, located at 228 Miami Street. But this is not just any Little Free Library. In true Waynesville fashion, it has been thoughtfully designed to reflect the character of its home.

Instead of the traditional small box design, this custom-built library has been crafted to resemble a classic grandfather clock, a nod to the craftsmanship and history associated with the Clock Shop and the town itself. The unique structure blends storytelling and timekeeping in one charming piece, inviting visitors to slow down, browse, and share a book.

Little Free Libraries are part of a global literacy movement that encourages neighbors to “take a book, share a book.” The concept is simple yet powerful. Anyone may leave a book for others to enjoy or take one home to read, free of charge. The goal is to foster a love of reading, build community connections, and make books accessible to all.

The installation at 228 Miami Street marks Waynesville’s first official Little Free Library, creating a new gathering point along one of downtown’s most historic corridors. Community members are encouraged to attend the opening celebration, explore the custom clock inspired design, and bring a book to contribute if they wish.

As the clock hands turn and the pages flip, this small structure stands as a reminder that even in a fast moving world, there is always time for a good story.
