A Cultural Center for the Village

Museum at the Friends Home

Museum at the Friends Home

The museum is housed in the 1905 Friends Boarding Home which looks very much as it did when retired Quakers and school teachers lived there in its early days. As the gateway to the Quaker Historical District in Waynesville, Ohio, the Friends Home operates as a cultural center for the village, and for Wayne and Massie Townships of Warren County. It sits at the top of Quaker Hill two blocks from downtown Waynesville. Twenty-two rooms of historic exhibits are offered on three floors. Each room highlights a local community or an aspect of early Quaker life, period clothing, local medicine and education, and more!

The Quaker Historical District is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Museum is open Wednesdays and Saturdays from April through mid-December from 1 to 5 p.m., or by appointment, 513-897-1607.

Overnight History Bus Tours

The Museum hosts two overnight history tours a year; one in spring and one in fall. April 2013 was a Quaker-Shaker Excursion to religious heritage sites from Waynesville to Pleasant Hill, Kentucky; August 2013 was Ohio River History and Hauntings Tour to Marietta, Ohio and Blennerhasset Island, West Virginia; and May 2014 will bring our Eclectic Encounters Tour to southern Ohio and Kentucky on May 5th and 6th.
